ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE CUSHING HALL RENOVATION
Pippa Passes, Kentucky
Literally raising a campus focal point from the dead. The building that had hosted Alice Lloyd, Robert Kennedy and every one of the college’s presidents was a pile of rubble. The roof had caved in, windows were out and none of the past laughter and excitement that taken place in its assembly hall could be heard. Every one of the old grads looked mournfully at the mess and wondered if anything could be done.
JRA Architects thoroughly surveyed the building and saw that there was great potential to revive it. Working closely with the administration plans were made to recreate the assembly hall, classrooms, office space and a campus grill. Most of the original detailing was preserved or duplicated. The structure was improved and the roof replaced.
