The proposed new Humane Society of Oldham County facility will be on a 7.5-acre parcel of property located in the heart of Oldham County. The plan is to develop the property that will allow the facility to grow as new services are added or the need arises to expand specific programs.
The site will feature public walking tails and training areas for dogs. There is a planned outdoor community events lawn that is an extension of the new community meeting space. This events lawn will cater to outdoor social gatherings such as concerts, arts fairs as well as public education seminars put on by the Humane Society. Also planned for the site are outdoor training areas for the service dog program which work in conjunction with the local prison animal rescue program.
The new facility is approximately 24,000 s.f. and will allow the Humane Society to provide proper housing and treatment centers for the animals. Included in the new building will be on site cat housing/adoption rooms, a new animal treatment/surgery center, quarantine housing for sick animals, dog adoption meet and greet rooms, dog kennels for the service dogs in training and a public kennels. A new animal surgery wing is programmed and will provide animal care services to the public.
The building will also contain the Humane Society offices as well as a community room. The community room is designed to be a flexible space that can be opened up to the covered porch or directly to the events lawn. The indoor space is roughly 1,500 S.F. with a warming kitchen and public restrooms. The outdoor covered porch will function as an extension of the indoor community space and will also serve as the distribution area for low income families to pick up food for their animals that has been donated by the community.
This new facility will allow the Humane Society of Oldham County to serve the community in ways it has never been able to in the past.
