The New Jacobs Science Building is based on a projected enrollment of 6,000 incoming students per year with added shelled spaces that are required to accommodate the enrollment of 6,000 incoming students per year. The program contains 90,785 net assignable square feet of academic space. It accommodates the teaching labs for chemistry, general biology, micro and neurobiology along with required preparatory and support spaces. There are two large lecture halls – one at 300 seats and the other at 200 seats; a number of technology enhanced active learning (TEAL) classrooms of varying sizes, the chemistry department office, the general chemistry office, offices for lecturers, academic coordinators, and other staff, advising suites, meeting rooms, informal student spaces, a café and building support spaces. In addition the program includes shelled space for research.
The project has achieved LEED Silver (NC-2009) Certification. Given the type and scale of this project this is an outstanding achievement for both JRA and UK.
