This middle school facility serves a student enrollment of 900 students, and features the latest in technology systems. JRA worked closely with the existing middle school staff and a steering committee formed by the school board with the direct responsibility of controlling the building’s design. The design features a two-story plan with a continuous peaked roof structure over the entire facility which will blend with the rural surroundings. The building is designed to be a low maintenance facility with its sloped shingle roof, brick exterior, wireless clock system, and internal mechanical catwalk system. A geothermal HVAC system was also designed into the project to reduce the building’s life-cycle costs. Furthermore, the building is designed so that the gymnasium, cafeteria and library can be separated from the rest of the school for after-hours community functions. The building contains classrooms, special education classroom, science classrooms, resource classrooms, art and music instructional areas, computer labs, technology education spaces, industrial arts shop, administrative offices, library media center, kitchen, cafeteria, cardio-weight room, and a gymnasium with attached locker and shower areas. Bid alternates were also accepted to construct new football/soccer, baseball, and softball facilities as part of the construction.
