FARM CREDIT SERVICES HEADQUARTERS
JRA Architects was commissioned to design The New Corporate
Headquarters building for Farm Credit Services of Mid-America. Farm
Credit Services is an agricultural lender with offices in four states. The
owners created a central office team that consisted of members of the
different departments within the company to interact with the design
team. With this diverse group of people we were able to gather an
understanding of how the company organization worked both internally
In developing the design, it quickly became apparent that Farm Credit
needed to be interactive between all departments. JRA provided an
environment that enhanced their teaming philosophies. Another
requirement that was crucial for the new building was that it be extremely
flexible. Growth of the company and the ever constant change of
technology and department interaction required not only a flexible plan
but reconfigurable office environments.
The exterior architecture of this building resembles the prairie style of
architecture. The vision of this building was to capture who Farm Credit is,
an agricultural lender so it only made sense to use this style of
architecture as a guide. Limestone banding, red iron spot brick and a
copper roof create the exterior palate.
During the planning phase of the project we were requested to add
additional building expansion space. This expansion space is to be leased
by other companies and can also be used as future growth space for
Farm Credit. With this addition to the program we created two separate
spaces adjacent to the main building entry. This would allow Farm Credit
to gradually grow with minimum disruption.
The main entrance is a three story structure identifying the company
culture of Farm Credit. Within the entry lobby stands a 38’ tall steel tree
structure. This sculptural piece reinforces the company philosophy of its
roots being planted deeply in the ground; strong and steady are its
branches ever reaching out to the farming community.
