The site selected for this new Jackson County Judicial Center is directly across the street from the existing Justice Center in downtown McKee, Kentucky. The new court facility will be constructed on a site that is approximately 1/2 acre in total area.
The site challenged the design team to create a building that is monumental, yet does not overpower the adjacent one and two story structures. The new Judicial Center embodies elements of architectural styles seen in other buildings located downtown. This results in a distinctive design that maintains respect for its surroundings.
The Judicial Center consists of three levels. Located on the first floor are the Circuit Court Clerk offices, Pre-Trial Services, Court Designated Worker offices, and Drug Court offices. The second floor consists of the District Courtroom with associated support spaces, District Judge’s Chambers and Hearing rooms. The third floor contains the Circuit Courtroom and associated support spaces, Family Courtroom, Circuit and Family Court Judge’s Chambers, Grand Jury and Special Judge’s/Visiting Judge’s Chambers, and public circulation areas.
