When considering plastic surgery, excellent aesthetics and advanced technology are aspects that patients always seek. The owner of Imaage Spa and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center asked JRA Architects to help build a new two-story facility with those attributes in mind.
An avid art collector and ardent follower of contemporary architecture, the owner worked closely with JRA to develop a progressive building form that would be both a powerful advertisement for his practice, and a carefully abstracted analogy of the work he performs.
The building exterior is marked by three dominant features: an overlapping, softly curving zinc-clad shell enclosing the treatment rooms and waiting areas; a two-story glass entrance atrium bounded by a sculptural slate wall and elevator tower; and a monolithic operating room suite block that anchors the composition’s other two elements.
The interior design further identifies the individual character of the three primary programmatic elements. Day-lit offices and treatment rooms wrap an uninterrupted circulation, which in turn embraces a gently contoured reception and waiting room. Interplay of three overlapping arcs is expressed in the entrance atrium’s grand staircase and mezzanine, terrazzo floor, and sculptural ceiling planes. Utility and cleanliness is evident throughout the surgery procedure suite’s carefully choreographed room sequence.
JRA values creating beautiful spaces and technologically advanced facilities, and the marriage of these two ideals results in innovative designs like the Imaage Plastic Surgery Center.
