In conjunction with the design architects, Ratio Inc. , JRA produced this new nine story cast- in- place concrete 1707 car parking garage. Also included in the building is a space for future retail at the street level, offering attractive amenities to the nearby residential housing development. Four glass backed elevators traverse the various levels, with special colors and graphics identifying each floor assisting in patron wayfinding. The structure is comprised of concrete piles and caissons, concrete superstructure, post– tensioned beams and slabs, plus masonry and glass curtainwalls. The façade design is similar to the adjacent University of Louisville Bio-Medical Research Building, with various plains of material reducing the apparent scale to street level.
A state of the art counting system is on each floor, illustrating to the patrons the approximate numbers of empty spaces at that level. The project includes many sustainable initiatives, including construction recycling, drip type irrigation system feed from the condensate collection of the adjacent lab, an ivy covered green wall on the east façade, and energy saving lighting systems.
