Leslie County Track
JRA Architects worked closely with Leslie County Schools to replace the high school running track’s rubber surface. Given the high moisture content of the soil below the track, which sits adjacent to the Kentucky River nestled in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky, selecting the appropriate running track materials was critical. A water permeable, sandwich system synthetic running track was selected to allow the track surface to breath. This system consists of a poured-in-place rubber sub-base with a colored top coat. The project also included a new asphalt overlay of the existing surface to ensure proper binding of the new materials. The track is now a showcase feature of the school as it’s strategically situated in a prominent location for all visitors to see.
